Platform Overview

The CAN-BIND Trainee Platform supports the next generation of mental health researchers and professionals working together to advance mental wellness for all Canadians. It brings together learners from across the CAN-BIND network to foster their scientific, professional, and career development. Members include undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research coordinators, medical students, and residents, all of whom play an integral role in CAN-BIND’s research, educational, and outreach initiatives.

As a multidisciplinary program, CAN-BIND spans diverse research areas, including basic science, neuroimaging, genetics and functional genomics, data science, and knowledge translation. The Trainee Platform builds on this breadth by connecting trainees with researchers who share their interests and fostering supportive peer networks that encourage collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth. Co-led by trainee representatives and guided by learners’ needs and priorities, the platform helps trainees make the most of these opportunities.

To further support trainees’ development, the platform offers workshops, seminars, resources, and networking opportunities that strengthen research skills, advance knowledge translation, and support professional growth. These initiatives help trainees broaden their expertise, collaborate across disciplines, and build lasting connections. By equipping trainees with the skills, knowledge, and networks to translate research into meaningful impact, the platform helps cultivate future leaders who drive innovation and advance mental health research and care.
